International Conference on Smart, Sustainable & Advanced Materials in Engineering

NERIST is unique in the country for its innovative modular system of education, designed to develop technical manpower at technician, supervisory, and executive levels. Academic programmes began in 1986, and the Institute currently offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in major engineering and science disciplines, including Agricultural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Computer Science & Engineering, and Forestry. The undergraduate engineering programmes are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Over the years, NERIST graduates have distinguished themselves in leading national and international organizations, academia, research institutions, and entrepreneurship.

Governed by a Board of Management comprising representatives from the Ministry of Education, AICTE, the eight beneficiary North-Eastern states, and eminent educationists, the Institute plays a vital role in regional and national development. With strong emphasis on quality education, research and development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community outreach, NERIST actively contributes to capacity building, sustainable development, and technological advancement—particularly tailored to the socio-economic and environmental needs of the North-Eastern region of India, while maintaining global standards in science and engineering education.

The department is committed to developing high-quality technical manpower through its modular academic structure, offering Certificate, Diploma, and B.Tech. programmes, followed by postgraduate programmes (M.Tech. in Environmental Science & Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering) and Ph.D. The B.Tech. programme is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), reflecting the department’s strong academic standards and outcome-based education.

The department comprises 16 well-qualified faculty members with expertise spanning major domains of civil engineering. Its laboratories are well equipped to support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as advanced doctoral research. In addition to academics, the department actively undertakes sponsored research projects and consultancy assignments, addressing real-world engineering challenges. Through workshops, short-term training programmes, and conferences, the department plays a vital role in knowledge dissemination among academicians, government officials, NGOs, and local communities—particularly contributing to sustainable infrastructure development in Arunachal Pradesh and the North-Eastern region.

The department offers certificate, diploma, and degree programs, with a curriculum for the degree module that is at par with premier engineering institutions in the country. Emphasis is placed on developing strong fundamentals along with practical skills in servicing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and supervisory functions to meet the evolving needs of industry and society.

The department is supported by 12 well-equipped laboratories and 6 specialized workshops, providing hands-on exposure to advanced machines and modern experimental facilities. It is staffed by a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty members—Ph.D. holders and postgraduates from reputed institutes such as IITs, ISM, NITs, and Jadavpur University—along with motivated young faculty and dedicated technical staff. A warm, collaborative academic environment and a strong focus on applied learning, research, and innovation enable the department to contribute effectively to education, research, and national development.
